FAQs
How much power does my motorhome or caravan need?
This depends on the wattage and watt hours each panel will generate for your daily consumption. This includes factoring in electrical consumption, peak sun hours and solar panel output ratings. Typically, panels of 80W and above are the most commonly needed for motorhomes and campervans, though we recommend measuring how much electricity you use to calculate your average energy use.
You can determine this by using the basic formula below:
Number of Panels = Daily Energy Usage ÷ (Panel Wattage x Peak Sun Hours)
How many solar panels do I need for my motorhome or campervan?
The size of your solar panels varies on how much space is available on your motorhome or campervan. If a 120W panel is too large in area, but there is space for two 60W panels side by side – this will work the same way.
Here at Onboard Energy, we manufacture and supply a different range of solar panel sizes from length, width, thickness and power rating.
What are the different types of solar panels?
There are a few different types of collar panels to be aware of, though the three most common include:
- Polycrystalline
- Monocrystalline
- Thin-film
