What is a Victron BlueSolar Charge Controller?
A Victron BlueSolar charge controller sits between your solar panels and battery bank and regulates the power your panels generate before it reaches your batteries. This stops overcharging and keeps the charge current at a safe, usable level for your battery system.
Solar panels produce power that varies with sunlight, temperature and time of day. A charge controller manages that variable output and turns it into a steady, controlled charge. Without one, your batteries would be exposed to inconsistent and potentially damaging current.
BlueSolar controllers sit at the centre of your solar setup. They connect your panels on one side and your battery bank on the other. Every watt your panels produce passes through the controller before it does any work.
MPPT stands for Maximum Power Point Tracking. It constantly scans your solar panel's output and adjusts the electrical load to find the point where the panel produces the most usable power. The controller then converts this power into the right voltage for charging your batteries.
Solar panels don't always run at their best output. Light levels, shading and temperature all shift throughout the day. MPPT technology tracks these changes and adjusts itself in real time to keep pulling the most from your panels.
Once it finds the optimal point, the controller converts that power into a charge current your batteries can use. This happens continuously, not as a one-off setting. The result is a charge controller that adapts as conditions change, rather than working to a fixed output.
Choosing the Right BlueSolar Controller
Choosing the right controller comes down to three things: your solar array voltage, your battery voltage and the charging current you need. The two numbers in each model name tell you this directly. A 75/15 model handles a maximum PV voltage of 75V and charges at up to 15A.
Our BlueSolar range includes the 75/10 and 75/15 for smaller arrays, plus the 100/15 and 100/30 for higher voltage setups. If you're running a larger system, the 150/35, 150/60 and 150/70 models handle higher PV voltages and charging currents. Match the controller's ratings to your panel output and battery bank size before you buy.
Some models come with MC4 or Tr connection options, so check which suits your existing wiring. Getting the voltage and current ratings right protects your equipment and keeps charging efficient. If you're unsure which model fits your setup, our team can help you work it out.
